Phoenix visit to Windsor Castle

8th June 2016

On Wednesday 8th June Phoenix class went on a visit to Windsor castle. We arrived just as the roads were being closed for the Changing of the Guard. Very exciting! We walked up through the grounds to be met by our teacher Simone who talked to us about the many different kings and queens who had lived in the castle over the centuries. She was very impressed with the questions and answers Phoenix class were able to come up with! Some children dressed up to act out being a king and kitchen cooks but the most exciting part of our talk was dressing up as knights of the garter and walking through the State Rooms into a part that people are not usually allowed in to be made a Sir or a Lady! Mrs Jones was queen for the day and was given the important job of making all of Phoenix a Knight or a Lady. They had to remember to walk slowly, bow or curtsey, go on one knee and bow their head before the ‘queen’ touched their shoulder with a pretend sword. We caused a great deal of interest from all the tourists in the castle as we walked in our dark blue cloaks and hats with white feathers on!  Photographs will soon be on the website.  Thank you to all our helpers: Mrs Nero, Mrs Jones, Mrs Palfreman and Mrs Board.
