Art and Design

By studying a diverse range of artists from different cultures and through out history, art at Chenies aims to encourage the children to develop their own abilities, as well as a critical understanding of their own and others’ cultural heritages. Art is an important part of well-being, particularly for enabling self-expression. We aim to inspire creativity and encourage our children to develop a life-long love of art, not just through personal aptitude at creating works of art but through gaining a good general knowledge of the subject as well as an understanding of how art can be used to foster links with other people in their communities.

We follow a two year curriculum cycle across the foundation curriculum, ensuring that children cover all areas of the subject during their 2 years in a class.  This ensures all areas of the National Curriculum are covered and embedded.
Whilst our children are taught in a mixed class, different skills are developed in each year group as they progress through the school within each subject.

Sketch Books

We encourage children to use their personal sketch books in a fun and enjoyable way at playtimes. Through this we are encouraging the children to build up a visual diary of ideas and experimentation. Each week we provide the children with a theme for their sketch book for those children who enjoy responding to suggested ideas.  We hope you enjoy looking at some of the children's sketches in the pictures below.

Artist of the Week

Each week we focus on a different artist. There is a display of the artist's work in school and a powerpoint of their work for children to look at, as they come into the daily assembly. Children are encouraged to choose an artist and create their own powerpoint presentation to share with the school.
