Music

Music

At Chenies we strive to expose the children to a wide range of musical styles, recognising that music can play an important part in emotional well-being.  We want to ensure our children have the opportunity to participate and perform as individuals and as part of larger groups both in school and at local area events. We  want all children to have the opportunity of learning an instrument and so children in Year 3  will have the opportunity to learn the French Horn with their class. Children can also choose to engage with peripatetic music lessons and extra-curricular clubs. We hope to foster a lifelong love of music by exposing our children to diverse musical experiences including performing, composing, and listening, as we recognise that music can inspire creativity and self-expression, as well as provide opportunities to connect with others.

We follow a two year curriculum cycle across the foundation curriculum, ensuring that children cover all areas of the subject during their 2 years in a class.  This ensures all areas of the National Curriculum are covered and embedded.
Whilst our children are taught in a mixed class, different skills are developed in each year group as they progress through the school within each subject.
